Sophia
Rosalie (Sanburn) Farey
Death from a
general decline, came quietly and peacefully to Mrs. Farey,
on December 5th,
1907, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Martha Lawrence, on Pottery
Street, at the age
of eighty three years and one month.
Mrs. Farey was born
in Vandalia, Illinois Nov. 5th, 1824, and had been the widow of
Henry Farey, whom she married in Illinois in 1846, for the past fifty years of
her life.
Her only remaining
child, Henry N. Farey, well known in Elsinore, where he resided for some time,
died two years ago in Berkeley, where his ‘widow’ and three children still
reside.
Besides Mrs. Martha
Lawerence of Elsinore, a sister in Colorado, one in Colby, Kansas, a brother in
Idaho, and another in northern California, survive her.
Simple funeral
services were held at the home of Mrs. Lawerence at 2:30 PM Saturday afternoon.
Rev. G. E. Twomley of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which Mrs. Farey was a
member, officiating.
Mrs. Farey had
lived for the past seven years with her sister in Elsinore and, as her health
had been poor most of the time, was but little known in the community: but to
those who knew her well she had greatly endeared herself by her lovely
personality.
She was a woman of
culture, and education, and much cheerfulness; a lover of little children with
whom she was a favorite always, having been for many years a kindergarten teacher,
and retaining always the gentleness which brought her success in her life work.
Interment was made
in the cemetery at Elsinore.
